Our Development Programme is a structured pathway that helps young gymnasts build strong foundations, develop excellent technique and progress confidently at a pace that’s right for them. With clear goals, positive coaching and regular feedback, we turn fundamentals into real, measurable progress.

Who Are Development Classes For?

  • Committed beginners who want a more structured route than general recreational classes.
  • Improvers ready to refine skills and increase training time.
  • Pathway gymnasts who may move towards pre–squad or squad training.

What We Work On

  • Fundamental Shapes & Technique: straight, hollow, arch, tight body, safe landings.
  • Core Skills: rolls, handstands, cartwheels, round-offs, bridges, basic vaulting.
  • Body Control: balance, coordination, spatial awareness and rhythm.

Apparatus Training

  • Floor & Vault for all gymnasts: shapes, rebounds, power, safe landings.
  • Bars (basic swings, casts, shapes) and Beam (posture, turns, acro preps).
  • Men’s apparatus exposure where appropriate: rings strength basics, parallel/high bar shapes, pommel circles preps.

Strength, Conditioning & Flexibility

  • Progressive conditioning: core, legs, shoulders and grip strength appropriate to age.
  • Injury-prevention prehab: wrist/ankle stability, shoulder mobility.
  • Flexibility: active & passive stretching with safe progressions.

Progression & Assessments

  • Clear pathway: Development 1 → Development 2 → Pre–Squad → Squad (where suitable).
  • Regular check-ins: short skill assessments and coach feedback every 6–8 weeks.
  • Individual goals: each gymnast knows their next steps and how to achieve them.

Safety & Wellbeing

  • Qualified coaching with correct progressions and spotting.
  • Positive culture: confidence, effort and good training habits are celebrated.

Class Information

  • Age Groups / Levels: Development 1 (foundation), Development 2 (improver), Pre–Squad (invite).
  • Days & Times: Please see our timetable for the latest schedule
  • What to Bring: water bottle, grip socks/suitable footwear, hair tied back.
  • Dress Code: leotard or fitted sportswear (shorts/leggings and fitted top).
  • Trial & Placement: new gymnasts may be offered a short trial so we place them at the right level.
